Counties have no money to pay August salaries, says Governor Ruto

Mr Ruto said the Sh227 billion set aside for the counties in the 2014/15 financial year beginning July was yet to reach the counties.

The National Assembly approved the County Allocation of Revenue Bill on Tuesday last week.

Council of Governors chairman Isaac Ruto has said none of the 47 counties has money to pay salaries for public servants in August.

This is because the national government has not released cash to the counties since the beginning of the current financial year, Mr Ruto said on Tuesday during a media briefing in Nairobi.

Mr Ruto said the Sh227 billion set aside for the counties in the 2014/15 financial year beginning July was yet to reach the counties.

The National Assembly approved the County Allocation of Revenue Bill, which sets the allocation to the counties, on Tuesday last week.

The Bill, which had already been passed by the Senate, would take effect seven days after being signed into law by President Uhuru Kenyatta.
