Court allows Senator Mike Sonko to sue Cord politicians for contempt

The High Court has allowed Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko to file contempt proceedings against Cord politicians over remarks they made during the Saba Saba rally at Uhuru Park.

Justice Isaac Lenaola on Tuesday allowed Mr Sonko to file the application against the Cord politicians for allegedly declining to obey a court order that stopped them from inciting the public during the rally held on July 7, 2014.

Justice Lenaola directed the case to be mentioned on November 20, 2014.

In his application, Mr Sonko wants the Cord politicians jailed for six months for allegedly making inflammatory and derogatory statements against the presidency, which amounted to incitement and contempt of the court order.

He has singled out senators James Orengo, Johnstone Muthama, Otieno Kajwang’ and Elizabeth Ongoro as those who incited the public during the rally.
