  • The tribunal, in a judgement issued by Chairperson Kyalo Mbobu, ruled that the party officials were not properly elected and were in office illegally.
  • However, speaking to the Nation, Mr Munya said the party had obtained a second court injunction preventing the tribunal’s decision from being implemented.

Meru Governor Peter Munya now wants the Political Parties’ Dispute Tribunal investigated by the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) for what he says is making politically motivated rulings.

Mr Munya maintains he is the leader of the Party of National Unity (PNU) even after the tribunal, on June 22, ordered its officials to leave office within seven days.

“I have instructed my lawyers to write to the JSC for the tribunal members to be investigated. They have been making contradictory rulings which are politically motivated.

“I am the PNU party leader and its only party members who can remove me; not political machinations instigated by Jubilee,” Mr Munya remarked.

PROPERLY ELECTED

The tribunal, in a judgement issued by Chairperson Kyalo Mbobu, ruled that the party officials were not properly elected and were in office illegally.

The PPDT directed that Mr Munya’s team hand over office to the previous officials until a proper delegates’ meeting is held.

The petition was filed by Mr Alphonce Mbida.

However, speaking to the Nation, Mr Munya said the party had obtained a second court injunction preventing the tribunal’s decision from being implemented.

He claimed that the members of the tribunal were being manipulated by his political opponents ‘to issue contradictory judgements’.

WAVINYA CASE

“The decision of a junior tribunal cannot overrule that of the High Court. We had an order which we renewed on Wednesday to protect the officials.

“We are in office legally and the tribunal’s decision cannot stand. This is the same tribunal that barred Machakos gubernatorial candidate Wavinya Ndeti before she was reinstated by the courts,” Mr Munya said.

He argued that the tribunal contradicted itself since it had earlier ruled that Mr John Kamama had never been the party’s official.

“The same tribunal confirmed the current secretary general John Anunda before he was re-elected by the delegates. They ruled against Mr Kamama, to whom they are now asking us to hand over office to.

2022 BID

“The tribunal allowed us to hold the National Delegates’ Conference which they are now terming null and void. The decision is ridiculous,” said Mr Munya.

Mr Munya has been accusing top Jubilee politicians of being behind the woes facing PNU saying they were after derailing his 2022 presidential dream.

He has accused deputy president William Ruto of leading the war against him.
