Deputy President William Ruto has urged Lamu leaders to avoid divisive politics.

Addressing residents in Lamu East and Mokowe in Lamu West in Lamu County on Tuesday, Mr Ruto said uniting Kenyans should be the agenda of every leader.

He wooed local leaders to join Jubilee, saying the coalition's key agenda is to unite Kenyans under one party ahead of the 2017 elections.

He said Jubilee is keen on development and appealed to Lamu Governor Issa Timamy, MPs Julius Ndegwa (Lamu West), Athman Sharif (Lamu East) and Woman Representative Shakila Abdalla to join the ruling coalition.

Mr Ruto also criticised Cord co-principals Raila Odinga, Kalonzo Musyoka and Moses Wetang’ula, saying they lack leadership as they are yet to agree on who will be their flag-bearer in the next elections.

“The three so-called principals have totally lost direction at the moment. They have even failed to decide who will be their presidential candidate come 2017.

"If three people cannot agree on who will be their presidential candidate, are they capable of leading a country of more than 40 million people?” said Mr Ruto.

The Lamu governor said he would continue to work with the Jubilee government

“Our maternal health has greatly improved and this is through the Jubilee government, which assisted us with Sh200 million to boost three hospitals. We have already received Sh100 million and work is already under way at the King Fahad County Hospital,” said Mr Timamy.
