What you need to know:

  • Senior county employees to be attached to a ministry to gain experience.

Senior county employees will soon be given an opportunity to work in the national government to hone their management skills.

Devolution Cabinet Secretary Anne Waiguru said the plan was to have county officials attached to a ministry for about a week to gain more experience.

“Through the National Capacity Building Framework, my ministry and other line ministries are working effortlessly to deliver training across all core government sectors such as budgeting and finance, law and human resource to county government officers,” said the Cabinet secretary.

Ms Waiguru revealed that the government was working with the Council of Governors to make the programme a reality.

GAIN EXPERIENCE

She spoke at Safari Park Hotel, Nairobi, when she opened a devolution conference for the Council of County Executive Committee members.

Ms Waiguru said the mentorship programme would enable county executive committee members to learn how the government undertakes its daily activities.

The staff would be “trained on planning, meetings, budget preparation and other procedural issues”, which they would be expected to implement in the counties to improve service delivery.

She said the programme would help equip the county staff with information on how to effectively manage the counties, given that some of the employees were not initially civil servants.
