Disabled Senators and MPs have called for an end to discrimination against disabled Kenyans.

Senators Godliver Omondi, Paul Njoroge and MPs Isaac Mwaura and Tim Wanyonyi said State policies were not friendly to the disabled.

They were speaking in Nairobi during the launch of the guidelines for inclusion of the disabled in society.

Mr Mwaura, who is an ODM nominated MP, was concerned by the delay in appointing a board of management at the National Council for Persons with Disabilities.

TALKED TO PRESIDENT

Mr Mwaura, who is also the chairman of the caucus in parliament of the disabled, said Sh1.3 billion allocated to the council was still at the Treasury.

He said the council could not give out the money since there was no board.

“I talked to the President about the matter and I don’t want to go back to him eight months after the funds were allocated,” he said.

“We should compensate Kenyans who become disabled due to disasters instead of abandoning them,” he said.

He also lamented about government appointments saying that they have ignored them despite being qualified.
