Ugly scenes marred the Mara Day celebrations in Narok County on Monday as Bomet Governor Isaac Ruto confronted National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale in the presence of Deputy President William Ruto.

Drama ensued after Mr Duale accused Governor Ruto of failing to account for Sh184 million meant for Bomet County and failing to honour summons by the Senate to answer audit queries.

“That money is not yours. It is public money meant to improve lives,” he told the gathering that included Tanzanian government officials.

Mr Duale said Governor Ruto was not qualified to lead the demand for more cash since he had not properly utilized allocations given to his county government.

Mr Duale cut short his address when the Bomet governor began walking towards the dais.

Narok Governor Samuel Tunai and Narok Senator Stephen ole Ntutu quickly intercepted Governor Ruto and prevailed on him to resume his seat.

The two exchanged bitter words before the deputy president, who immediately apologised to the Tanzanian delegation.
