House set to quiz Waiguru over NYS

Devolution Cabinet Secretary Anne Waiguru is set to appear before a parliamentary committee on Tuesday amid piling pressure for her to step aside over alleged fraudulent transactions at the National Youth Service (NYS).

The CS will face the Finance, Planning and Trade Committee chaired by Benjamin Lagat (Ainamoi, URP) at noon.

Ugunja MP Opiyo Wandayi said it is important for Kenyans to know the root of the alleged scandal and the steps the ministry is taking to bring the suspects to book.

The Central Bank of Kenya is reported to have notified the Devolution ministry about large suspect payments from its account.

“We want her to tell Kenyans how the scandal came about. Why was it not communicated before the Central Bank blew the whistle,” said Mr Wandayi by phone yesterday.

The MP said the committee would demand to know the progress of the investigations. Ms Waiguru would also be asked to give timeframes within which the findings will be revealed.
