The National Assembly resumes its sittings Tuesday after a 10-day break to oversee CDF disbursement.

MPs pushed for the break, barely a month after returning to business from a long recess.

The Constituency Development Fund (CDF) is viewed as one of the matters dear to the lawmakers’ hearts.

MPs took off soon after the release of the first tranche of Sh8 billion of the development funds by the National Treasury.

The money was released to the CDF Board for disbursement to all constituencies whose projects had been approved.

The chairman of the National Assembly CDF committee, Mr Moses Lessonet, came under scathing attack from MPs who criticised his team for failing to follow up on CDF matters.

Majority Leader Adan Duale asked Mr Lessonet to emulate his predecessor, Mr Ekwee Ethuro, now the Senate Speaker.

“Mr Lessonet should get induction from the Speaker of the Senate because the Constituency Development Fund Committee is very critical,” Mr Duale told the Nation by phone Sunday.

The Majority Leader said he took up the matter with the National Treasury Cabinet secretary, Mr Henry Rotich because of the delay.

“I realised that we are approaching the end of October but the Treasury had not released even the first tranche of the CDF money,” said Mr Duale.
