House team to table report on petition for IEBC removal today

What you need to know:

  • The committee chaired by Ainabkoi MP Samuel Chepkong’a was given 30 days to interrogate the petition and report back to the House.
  • Once it is tabled, members will have an opportunity to make contributions. The MPs are returning from a 10-day recess.

The National Assembly’s Justice and Legal affairs Committee will Tuesday table a report on a petition seeking the removal of members of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission.

The petition was placed before the House by Mr Barasa Nyikuri and sought the dismissal of the commissioners for failing to conduct fair elections in 2013.

The committee chaired by Ainabkoi MP Samuel Chepkong’a was given 30 days to interrogate the petition and report back to the House.

Once it is tabled, members will have an opportunity to make contributions. The MPs are returning from a 10-day recess.

At the same time, Kitui Governor Julius Malombe is expected to appear before the Senate County Public Accounts and Investments Committee to respond to audit queries raised by the Auditor-General Edward Ouko in the 2013/14 financial year.

The committee has been grilling governors on how they used allocated money in the financial year.
