Mr Musalia Mudavadi on Sunday insisted that he was the United Democratic Forum party leader.

Speaking at PAG Church in Umoja, Nairobi, Mr Mudavadi said the party delegates gave him the leadership mandate before the 2013 general election.

He said he was being fought because he was reorganising UDF to involve all members in decision-making.

The former Deputy Prime Minister said the list of UDF officials the Registrar of Political Parties, Lucy Ndung’u, tabled to the Party Dispute Tribunal on Friday was that of 2012.

He added that it was not the duty of Ms Ndung’u to decide who to hold which position in a party but to keep updated records.

“What we are going through in UDF is reorganisation of the party. Some people may not want to see changes,” he said.

He said the changes would ensure the 13 MPs, three senators and one governor who are members of the party were involved in the affairs of UDF.

“Our senators, MPs and governor are important people and must be involved in organs of the party like NEC and the National Governing Council,” he said.

He maintained that the NGC meeting slated for Friday would go on as planned, adding that those opposed to the reorganisation wanted to hold onto party leadership positions without being subjected to elections.

At the same time, Mr Mudavadi said he would contest the next presidential election and asked Kenyans to register in large numbers. He said he was now stronger than he was in 2013.
