Leaders try to convince locals of benefits of Nasa govt

The National Super Alliance has promised to involve Marsabit County residents in development initiatives and top job opportunities if they win in next month's polls.

Speaking during a campaign rally in Marsabit town, co-principal leader Moses Wetang'ula said that Marsabit is among the counties that have been marginalised by the Jubilee government.

Mr Wetang'ula, also the Bungoma senator and Ford-Kenya leader, said that a Nasa government would ensure that all projects are completed, unlike the Badassa dam project in the county.

"Raila’s government will ensure that those given tenders get to complete the work.

"We have seen the failure of our very own Badassa dam project," he said.

The senator added that a Nasa government would make sure that all the residents have access to adequate water.

He said that the county, which is governed by Ukur Yattani, will be among the first to receive the industrialisation hub that the coalition has pledged to set up in all the 47 devolved units.

"We will ensure that all projects are distributed fairly and this county will be among the first to receive the fruits of the Nasa government."

Machakos Senator Johnson Muthama said that the Jubilee administration, headed by President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto, is deceiving Kenyans that the Nasa presidential flag-bearer Raila Odinga is prejudiced towards some tribes.

Senator Muthama said that majority of Jubilee supporters believe that once Nasa (comprising ODM, Ford-Kenya, Wiper, ANC and CCM) has formed the government, some tribes will be sidelined.

"All Raila wants for this country is to tame cartels and shun all illegal businesses, not sideline people according to their tribes.

"He is for unity and that is all the Nasa government will fight for," he said.

TRACK RECORD
Mr Muthama criticised Mr William Ruto, saying that all he does is ask the Nasa principals what they did while they were in charge of senior government offices, rather than inform Kenyans what his government has achieved.

"Asking Wetang'ula what he has done is out of order. Wetang'ula was only a minister... the deputy president cannot say what his government has achieved," Mr Muthama said.

CHOICE
Siaya Senator James Orengo assured the residents that the elections will be held on August 8, and that the coalition will ensure they are credible.

In the 2013 elections, Mr Raila Odinga garnered 43,843 votes against President Kenyatta’s 42,407.

The leaders drummed up support for Mr Odinga but told the locals to make their own choice.

Mr Odinga was not at the rally.

He had attended the burial service of former Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery in Ilbisil, Kajiado County.
