Injured MCA trounces nine rivals, wins Jubilee ticket

An MCA who survived a horrible road crash in which four people perished has won the Jubilee ticket to defend her seat beating all her nine rivals.
Ziwani/Kariokor MCA Millicent Wambui, who was the only survivor in the Gilgil accidents, arrived at Jamhuri tallying centre on crutches before she was announced victor.
She was involved in the road crash on April 10 as she was returning to Nairobi from Kisumu where she had attended a burial of a footballer who was a resident of her ward.
Ms Wambui managed to trounce all her men competitors even though she did not campaign as she was still hospitalised.
“I am happy that I have won and I am hopeful to win in the General Elections,” said Ms Wambui.
Nairobi County assembly Minority chief whip Hashim Kamau, was beaten and conceded defeat after losing the Jubilee ticket for California ward.
The vocal MCA at City Hall and a strong supporter of Mr Peter Kenneth, took to his Facebook page to congratulate the winner.
“I would like to thank my family, friends and California residents at large for walking with me through this journey. Special thanks goes to my campaign team who worked tirelessly,” he posted on his Facebook page.
He added that he respected the decision of the people even though he poked holes into the credibility of the exercise.
”Were it not for the high election malpractice and irregularities, together with the combined force of both the opposition to see to it that I do not retain the post, we would have made a big stride together to better California ward.
“Nevertheless, I do believe I have left California Ward better than I found it and more so built a strong foundation for the next leader who will take the mantle,” he said.
There was drama in Mihango Ward when the incumbent MCA Paul Kados, who won the elections, demanded for his certificate to be issued.
Police however intervened to calm him down as his supporters at the tallying station chanted his name.
Elsewhere, Francis Mureithi will battle it out with Embakasi East MP John Omondi Ogutu after he won the Jubilee ticket.
Mr Murethi garnered 6,685 votes trouncing four other candidates Stephen Maina getting (3,895), Masonge Amos (289), Kamau Njenga (703) while Momanyi Bernard garnered 424 votes.
In the race for governorship, Nairobi Senator Mik Sonko was leading with 7,991 votes against Peter Kenneth’s 3,410 while Margret Wanjiru trailed with 508.
For the senate seat, nominated MP Johnson Sakaja got 8,603 votes.
By midday on Thursday, Embakasi East tallying centre, Aviation College, had not received all ballot papers and results had not been announced all blamed on logistical challenges.
Disgruntled agents and observers were sleeping on the desks as they complained of being left hungry and suffering from fatigue after not sleeping for two days.
The returning officer James Mureithi said that they faced transport problems hence the delay from Tassia polling station where voting started very late.
Embakasi East which had 42 polling stations.
