  • Mr Kang'ata also opposed the move by Nasa principals agitating for the replacement of the electoral commissioners.

Murang’a Senator Irungu Kang'ata was the lone Jubilee politician who showed up at the Supreme Court for the verdict on the presidential election petition.

Mr Kang’ata, who took the oath as Senator on Thursday, was bullish, squeezing himself through the Nasa supporters camped outside the court premises.

Even as the court, chaired by Chief Justice David Maraga made a majority verdict, the youthful Senator did not cow.

JUDGMENT
He was even more resilient, marching past the joyful crowd in a demonstration of his own kind.

"I am not happy with the court’s verdict.

"The judges admitted that they had not read all the documents presented before it among them the affidavits, submissions and exhibits…on what basis did they come up with the verdict," Mr Kang'ata said.

Justices Njoki Ndung'u and Jackton Ojwang’ formed the dissenting voices, with CJ Maraga, his deputy Philomena Mwilu, Smokin Wanjala and Isaac Lenaola delivering the majority decision that overturned Mr Kenyatta's victory.

IEBC
The Bench ruled that the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) failed to conduct the elections in accordance with the Constitution due to massive irregularities.

Mr Kang'ata also opposed the move by Nasa principals agitating for the replacement of the electoral commissioners, saying it will not be possible.

He said that Jubilee Party has a majority in the National Assembly and the Senate and would easily shoot down the proposal, which has to be adopted by Parliament.

Addressing journalists after the verdict, Nasa leader Raila Odinga, who was the petitioner, said that the outcome is an indictment on the credibility of the commissioners to conduct a fresh poll.
