Irungu to fly Jubilee flag in Laikipia, Mbadi to know fate

Jubilee Party has been ordered to issue nomination certificate to Joshua Irungu for Laikipia governorship race within 12 hours.

The Political Parties Dispute Tribunal ruled that Mr Irungu won fairly and that he should fly the JP flag thereby sealing the fate of two other aspirants, Nderitu Mureithi and former Foreign Affairs Permanent Secretary Thuita Mwangi.

Tribunal members Kyalo Mbobu, James Atemi and Hassan Abdi ruled they were convinced that Mr Irungu had fairly won the primary.

REPEAT PRIMARIES
After this it was the turn of secretary-generals of Kanu and ODM, Nick Salat and Agnes Zani, respectively, to defend themselves against accusations that they defied orders.

Lawyer Lawrence Nyangito urged the court to jail Dr Zani for contempt for failing to organise a repeat nomination for Bonchari as directed on May 3 within 48 hours.

Mr Salat faced the same charge for Fafi constituency.

The tribunal then ordered JP to announce the winner of the primaries for Limuru constituency.

Aspirant Chege Kiragu protested the delay, saying the deadlines for parties to submit a list of their candidates is tomorrow.

MUTUA'S MATTER
The tribunal also upheld the decision of ODM’s national appeals board to repeat nominations in seven polling stations in Suba South.

The High Court is however set to determine an appeal filed by Caroli Omondi against his opponent John Mbadi today.

The same court suspended the order that Wiper party democratically resolves the fate of voters in 19 polling stations in Mwingi Central where former chairman of the Law Society of Kenya Eric Mutua faced off with Gideon Mulyungi.

Meanwhile, six voters in Migori yesterday urged Mr Mbobu to cancel the certificate issued to Governor Okoth Obado, alleging that he did not comply with ODM nomination rules by offering himself for election outside the set timelines.

CERTIFICATE CANCELLED
And in Muhoroni the certificate issued to the Member of Parliament James Koyoo was cancelled after a complaint by Prof Ayiecho Olweny that no voting took place in five wards and that the returning officer has since gone missing and that results cannot be declared.

In Roysambu constituency, Jubilee’s aspirant Lee Muchiri has opposed the election of MP Waihenya Nderitu.

Mr Mbobu will deliver a ruling today.

In the headlines
