The Jubilee Alliance Party has stopped politicians who are opening new offices without permission.

The decision is meant to end the rift that is growing between lawmakers and politicians who lost in the 2013 elections.

It also seeks to end the simmering rivalry between groups eyeing control of the party at the grassroots.

President Kenyatta and his deputy, Mr William Ruto, intend to vie on the party’s ticket in the next elections.

In a statement yesterday, the party headquarters expressed concern at the number of offices being opened across the country without authority from the secretariat in Nairobi.

“It has come to the attention of Jap headquarters that several persons have opened or intend to open offices in areas we do not have offices.

Any new office purportedly opened without the express authorisation of the party headquarters is an informal local arrangement that only serve to popularise the party at the grassroots until such time that the party secretariat announces the consultative forum,” read the statement sent to media houses by Jap Vice-Chairman David Murathe.

WRANGLES

Wrangles have erupted in Nyeri, Nakuru, Laikipia and Murang’a over the control of the party.

The statement said the party was facing the problem of uncoordinated opening of offices being run by parallel officials on interim basis.
Mr Murathe said offices of the Conservative Party would serve as Jap offices.

“All we have done is to rebrand an existing jubilee Coalition partner party into the Jubilee Alliance Party, hence, new offices will only be opened in those areas where the party had no presence,” he said.

He said the rebranded party would soon recruit coordinators for all counties who will be responsible for recruiting and registering new members.

“We shall be advertising for the position of coordinator for all counties as we intend to roll out an aggressive membership recruitment drive,” he said.

The new party is trying to get a foothold on the political landscape through the Kajiado Central by-election, where it has fielded a candidate, Mr Patrick Tutui, for the March 16 poll.
