A voter in Mombasa County has filed an affidavit accusing Governor Hassan Joho of perjury in respect to a case filed last year challenging his academic qualifications.

Ms Janet Mbete says that the governor may have lied on oath when he claimed to be a holder of a Business Administration degree from Kampala University when in fact he was not.

Ms Mbete had initially filed a case in Nairobi challenging the governor’s qualifications but the same was dismissed by Mr Justice Isaac Lenaola who cleared Mr Joho to vie.

In her new affidavit, Ms Mbete claims that the court was misled and acted on a false affidavit while delivering its judgment and that Mr Joho committed perjury.

She also says that new and important evidence has come to light which proves beyond a shadow of reasonable doubt that Mr Joho has never attended any university and does not qualify for admission in any other university.

“As such, the judgment herein ought to be reviewed as Mr Joho ought not to benefit from his criminal acts,” she stated.

The application will be heard on March 14 this year.
