Jubilee intends to disqualify troublemakers

Jubilee Party has set up a disciplinary committee to deal with its chaotic nomination process.

Addressing a news conference at the party’s headquarters in Nairobi on Friday, party's secretary-general Raphael Tuju said the disciplinary committee would deal firmly with those seeking to disrupt the party’s systems.

“The disciplinary committee has been set up as announced by the President this week. It will be intolerant to people seeking to disrupt party functions or meting violence on opponents. All parties should be firm on this issue,” said Mr Tuju.

He said that the disciplinary committee would meet this weekend to agree to disqualify those who cause disruptions at nominations or at any other party events, adding that the disciplinary committee will have a meeting with the IEBC, law enforcement agencies and the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) to agree on the same.

“The subject of agreement that we have with the IEBC, law enforcement agencies and the EACC is that if we disqualify someone, they should not be allowed in any other political parties,” he said.

Jubilee Party, he said, was ready to conform to IEBC timelines for the General Election and would hold its nominations as soon as the aspirants complete verifying their details by Monday.

“We are ready to submit all our nomination papers on Monday. We have 8,622 aspirants in total and we have already contracted printers who will give us the ballot papers next week to ensure that our nomination process is on schedule,” he said.

He assured that the party would have county election boards in place to ensure that nominations in all the 47 counties go on as planned.

He however dismissed the fracas witnessed in Bomas on Thursday where supporters of two rival Nairobi governorship aspirants clashed over the composition of the county’s election board.
