The Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (Cord) has accused the Jubilee government of spreading falsehoods that it has allocated 43 per cent of the national revenue to counties.

The government had only given a small portion of the money to devolved units whereas it is supposed to have given Sh700 billion to counties, the Opposition said.

Cord leaders Raila Odinga, Kalonzo Musyoka and Moses Wetangula   said the coalition was determined to see counties get at least 40 per cent of the current national budget and “not of the national revenue”.

FALSE POSITION

“If this formula were applied, county governments would this financial year get over Sh700 billion out of the Sh1.7 trillion in the 2014/15 national budget,” the leaders said in a joint statement sent to newsrooms Thursday.

“The Jubilee administration has embarked on a campaign to promote the false position that with the signing of the Division of Revenue Act 2014, allocation to counties has reached 43 per cent out of the national revenue,” they said.

The Sh226.7 billion given to the counties this financial year was based on the2009/2010 budget, the leaders added.
