The Jubilee coalition has told Cord that it will not be moved by calls to remove the electoral commissioners illegally.

The ruling coalition said it was not ready to shove aside the Constitution, which they reminded the Opposition that it was fully supported by Cord leader Raila Odinga when it was passed in 2010.

In a statement read by the National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale at Parliament, they said they would not allow the opposition leaders to subvert the law for selfish gains.

They said they are aware of Cord plans to shift to the restructuring of the Supreme Court once the electoral commissioners are removed from office in an attempt to polarise the country ahead of the next polls.

“In 2010 Raila Odinga said katiba ni sasa na kama si sasa ni sasa hivi but now he is asking the President to violate the same Constitution.

"He accuses the Jubilee coalition of taking the country back to the dark days yet now he is asking the President to do a constitutional coup. We shall not allow this to happen,” said Mr Duale who was flanked by 17 MPs.

They said the violence that rocked the city on Monday was due to an attempt to subvert the law.

“Raila Odinga needs to be stopped in his tracks and the time to stop him is now. He represents and perpetuates a culture that the only way to resolve issues is through violence. This is backward and unacceptable,” said Mr Duale.

He added that the National Assembly had opened the door for all parties' talks on restructuring the commission but Cord was not interested in meeting the House team.

The coalition said police action on Monday should be investigated by the Independent Policing and Oversight Authority.
