MP plots motion to oust Justin Muturi

  • Some MPs told the Nation Dr Musimba was unhappy with Mr Muturi’s demeanour and language.

National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi could face an attempt to oust him or have MPs discuss his conduct on the basis of a motion to be initiated by Kibwezi West MP Patrick Musimba.

Dr Musimba was on Wednesday evening consulting on how to draft his motion against Mr Muturi after an attempt to have him “named” and forced to leave his seat as his conduct is discussed was rebuffed by the Speaker for failing to adhere to procedure.

The MP has the option of drafting a censure motion or a motion of no-confidence on the Speaker of the National Assembly.

A censure motion would give lawmakers an opportunity to discuss the conduct of the Speaker, in his absence but on the record, and express their displeasure or support of him.

A motion of no-confidence would allow them to discuss the grounds and then vote on whether to remove Mr Muturi as the Speaker.

Outside the chambers, Dr Musimba declined to discuss his plan saying: “Mtajua tu (you shall know). I want to follow the right procedure.”

However, some of his counterparts told the Nation he was unhappy with Mr Muturi’s demeanour and language.
