Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka will join President Uhuru Kenyatta when he tours Ukambani today.

The President will commission various development projects and address meet-the-people rallies in Machakos County.

On Thursday, Mr Musyoka’s spokesman Dennis Kavisu said the Wiper leader had said he would join the President on the tour and that he had not changed his mind.

“He (Musyoka) is our leader and the unifying factor in Ukambani, while Uhuru Kenyatta is our President; its only natural that he be there,” Mr Kavisu said.

He added that Mr Musyoka’s presence in the presidential entourage should not be a ‘big deal’ since his co-principals Raila Odinga and Moses Wetang'ula had also accompanied the President in the past when he toured their regions.

But Machakos County Director of Communications Mutinda Mwanzia was categorical that Governor Alfred Mutua would take charge of the visit in Machakos County.

“In Machakos, Governor Mutua has taken control of the presidential visit. He has met members of the county assembly to ensure the visit is a success,” he said, adding that there was no conflict as to who is in charge

Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana said: “It is immaterial who ... invited the President since the trip [is] about development.”

Speaking on Wednesday, Prof Kibwana said Makueni lagged behind in development and that it was counting on government projects.
