Narc-Kenya leader Martha Karua says she has no intention of running for the Gichugu Parliamentary seat in the next General Election.

She accused her rivals of panicking following her frequent appearance in the constituency which she represented in the National Assembly for two decades.

“I had been MP for this area for four terms. I do not need such a seat any more,” she told mourners in Kirinyaga County on Friday, during the funeral of businessman Antony Macharia.

Accompanied by Governor Joseph Ndathi, Ms Karua, who was a presidential candidate in last year’s General Election, said she was eyeing a higher position.

“I’m now focusing on a more senior political post and my rivals should not have sleepless nights thinking that I will offer them stiff competition for a Parliamentary seat,” she said.

However, Ms Karua did not disclose which seat she will be vying for in future.

She also steered clear of referendum politics despite having aired her support for the Okoa Kenya initiative.

She described Mr Macharia, 35, as a hardworking businessman who acquired a lot of property while young.

The governor said his government was committed to creating jobs for the youth.

“We want youths who are educated and idling around because they have nothing to do to get jobs,” he said.

Mr Ndathi said Macharia, who is survived by his wife and a son, was his close friend who was also industrious.

“I have known Mr Macharia for long and he was working so hard. I urge young people from this area to emulate him,” he said.
