Martha Karua tells opposition to stop meddling with IEBC

Narc Kenya leader Martha Karua has accused National Super Alliance (Nasa) leaders of plotting to plunge the country into chaos by meddling with operations of the electoral body.

Speaking to journalists in Kimunye village, Kirinyaga County on Friday, Ms Karua said opposition leaders led by Raila Odinga were making irresponsible utterances meant to undermine the electoral process and cause violence.

"The Nasa leaders are issuing irresponsible statements, which can degenerate into anarchy and make Kenya ungovernable," said Ms Karua, who is vying for the Kirinyaga governorship seat.

She was accompanied her running mate, Gachoki Gitari.

She said it is wrong for the opposition leaders to accuse President Uhuru Kenyatta or his family of being involved in the procurement of ballot papers.

She said the remarks by opposition are already causing fear and tension across Kenya.

Ms Karua dared the leaders to table evidence of any scheme to rig the August 8 elections.

She called on security agents to rein in on politicians out to cause chaos during the electioneering period.

"Politicians engaging in activities likely to lead to bloodshed should not be spared," said Ms Karua.

She said all leaders should support the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) smooth and transparent elections.

Mr Gitari, who is also the Kirinyaga Central MP said the Nasa leaders have nothing to offer Kenyans and should be ignored.

He also asked the youth to refuse to be used by politicians to disrupt campaigns rallies.

"Some candidates are hiring youth to disrupt rallies of their rivals. The youth should defy politicians and maintain peace," he said.
