Kenya Power has apologised to Parliament for the recent power disconnection that affected the operations of both the Senate and the National Assembly.

The power company, through its Customer Services Division, took out an advertisement in newspapers on Sunday, saying it regrets the disconnection that affected Parliament and individual account holders.

The company stated that “there was a systems error which inadvertently affected remittance of electricity bills in October”.

According to the company, the error resulted in the disconnection of various institutions, including the National Assembly, the Senate and other individual account holders on October 2.

“This power disconnection may have affected the functioning of Parliament. We take this opportunity to apologise to Parliament and all other affected institutions and individuals for the inconveniences caused,” the company said.

The disconnection prompted speculation that Parliament had not paid its power bills.

Power was disconnected on October 2 over what an insider said was a dispute regarding the bill and despite the Parliamentary Service Commission paying Sh5.4 million in the same week.

Head of Civil Service Joseph Kinyua on October 5 intervened before Kenya Power reconnected electricity at Parliament.
