Feuding between different Kenyan interest groups in the US, inadequate corporate sponsorship and lack of manpower at the Kenyan embassy are some of the reasons behind the cancellation of the annual Kenya Diaspora conference that had been set for September in Atlanta, Georgia.

A source at the Kenyan embassy, who spoke to the Sunday Nation on condition of anonymity, said even before a recent feuds between key organisers of the event, the conference was already on the chopping board as it was deemed to expensive:

“The truth of the matter is the feuding provided balozi (ambassador Robinson Githae) with a perfect excuse to do away with the whole thing.”

The Kenyan embassy in the US last weekend announced that it had cancelled the 2015 Kenya Diaspora Conference. In a statement released by the embassy in Washington, DC, the decision was due to lack of funds.

The embassy stated that the government successfully hosted the Kenya Easter Diaspora Investment Conference in Nairobi from March 31, 2015 to April 2, 2015 that used substantial resources earmarked for engagement with the diaspora.
