West Pokot MPs hail Museveni for Karamoja peace

West Pokot MPs have hailed President Yoweri Museveni for his commitment to end ethnic bloodshed in Uganda's Karamoja region.

Mr Simon Kachapin, the West Pokot governor described Mr Museveni as a peace-loving president and thanked the people of Amudat for overwhelmingly voting for him in the February 18 elections.

“President Museveni is not the leader for Uganda only but he’s the leader for the whole East African Community because he mentors all our presidents in the region,” Mr Kachapin said on Sunday.

Mr Kachapin was speaking in Uganda during a thanksgiving ceremony for the elected MPs, LCV (district) chairpersons and councillors of Amudat district.

According to Mr Kachapin, peace and several developments being witnessed in Karamoja region is because of President Museveni’s leadership.

“Karamoja was not an easy place to live in during the past but now, it’s like paradise for everyone in the east African community,” he said.

Mr Kachapin, who was the chief guest, cautioned the leaders in Amudat to avoid working in isolation and advised them to work together to promote girl child education.

Mr Christopher Akorikimoe the Member of Parliament for Pokot County in Amudat district and his counterpart Ms Rose Mary Nawout pledged to mobilise parents to send their children to school.

Ms Nawout said education and health was still the biggest issue affecting the people of Amudat adding that as members of parliament they “we’re going to lobby support to address those challenges.”

Mr Francis Kiyonga, the LCV chairperson of Amudat thanked the Kenya government officials for their support to Uganda’s political candidates in the recently concluded elections.
