Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria Monday was released after depositing a Sh1 million cash bail in a new incitement case.

However, he is a threat to national security, said Nairobi Chief Magistrate Daniel Ogembo.

The magistrate also believes he could repeat the offence.

“There is a probability of him repeating a similar offence. He is a threat to national security,” said the magistrate.

Mr Kuria is charged with incitement arising from remarks he made at a public rally in Gatundu stadium, Kiambu.

The prosecution says he urged youth to take machetes and slash politicians opposed to NYS programmes.

The magistrate warned that if the MP does not refrain from further incitement, the bond terms will be cancelled.

Mr Kuria was released on a Sh5 million bond, with the alternative of a Sh1 million cash bail. The hearing of his case has been set for January 27.

Mr Ogembo said although it had not been proven, the charge against the politician is “an urge to Kenyans to take up pangas and slash fellow citizens”.
