ODM lawmakers defend Ababu over claims

  • Mr Arama said, like Mr Namwamba, he had also been accused of being a mole.

Some ODM lawmakers have defended Budalang’i MP Ababu Namwamba over claims he is undermining the party.

The MPs trashed plans to remove Mr Namwamba from the party and demanded that ODM hold pending elections.

Mr Namwamba skipped the midday press conference at Parliament Buildings in Nairobi that he had initially called.

The six MPs — Christopher Omulele (Luanda), Silvester Anami (Shinyalu), Samuel Arama (Nakuru Town West), John Waluke (Sirisia), Charles Mogeni (North Mugirango) and Rachel Ameso (Kakamega County) — said they belonged to and stood by ODM.

PARTY LOYALTY

However, the MPs said they were in the party by choice and would leave if it became necessary.

Their statement came in the wake of reports of plans to kick Mr Namwamba out of the party.

Mr Omulele said after consultations, they decided Mr Namwamba would not make any statement regarding the controversy that erupted after he was reported to have criticised ODM party leader Raila Odinga at the weekend.

“We have not seen anybody who has brought out a meter that is going to measure how one person is more committed to the party than the other,” said Mr Omulele.

ACCUSED AS MOLE

Mr Arama said, like Mr Namwamba, he had also been accused of being a mole.

He challenged ODM to live up to its name and hold elections.

“How can we disband IEBC when we can’t even hold our own elections?” he asked.

Mr Waluke said although he was an ODM lawmaker, he would support the government of the day.

“I am in ODM to stay, but I support the government of Uhuru and Ruto,” he said.
