Lawmakers demand pastor’s prosecution, threaten to push removal of Boinnet

Kiambu leaders have threatened to initiate a process of impeaching Inspector-General of Police Joseph Boinnet if a pastor allegedly linked to a fatal accident is not charged.

Kiambu Senator Kimani Wamatangi, Kiambu Woman Rep Annah Nyokabi, Limuru MP John Kiragu and Kabete MP Ferdinand Waititu claim police covered up for the cleric, in spite of eyewitness accounts.

Pastor James Maina Ng’ang’a of Neno Evangelism Centre has been linked to the crash in which Ms Mercy Njeri died on the Nakuru-Nairobi highway last Sunday.

The deceased, 43, and a mother of one, was in the company of her husband, Mr Martin Mbugua, who was injured when their vehicle collided head-on with the pastor’s car

The cleric was reportedly being driven on the wrong side of the road.

Speaking during Ms Njeri’s burial at Murengeti in Limuru yesterday, the lawmakers said Mr Boinnet has only one option, to have the Pastor arraigned or risk impeachment.

Mr Wamatangi said they would start a private prosecution against Mr Ng’ang’a.

“Why was the IG so fast to defend the pastor on social media yet he never comments on other accidents?’’ he asked.

Ms Nyokabi said justice must be done for both the poor and the rich. According to Mr Kiragu, this is not the first time the pastor has caused a fatal accident and got away with it. He claimed that two years ago the pastor was linked to an accident in which a man was killed..

Mr Waititu claimed the man who appeared in a Limuru court was hired.

According to Nakuru Town MP Kimani Ngunjiri, who was at the funeral, he witnessed an accident caused by the pastor in Naivasha, but he was not prosecuted .

Mr Mbugua said he was shocked to see another person in court instead of Pastor Ng’ang’a.
