MPs protest over poor poll rating

What you need to know:

  • A furious Saney said if the poll was about performance then the boreholes he has sunk, schools he has helped build and even roads he has recarpeted and help put up would have gone a long way in grading him fairly.
  • Nakuru Town West MP Samuel Arama said a more comprehensive poll could return a completely different verdict from this one.
  • Emuhaya MP Wilbur Ottichilo emerged the best having scored 79.9 per cent followed by his Sirisia counterpart John Waluke while Embakasi East MP Ogutu Omondi was named the worst performing MP, having scored 41.5 per cent.

Lawmakers who performed dismally in the recently released opinion poll have accused Infotrak Consulting of unfairly condemning them in the public court.

By relying only on specific segments of the populations, the survey never used scientifically-proven methods of research to return a foolproof result, they said.

“Infotrak chief executive Angela Ambitho is on record as saying that they only computed information from one sub-county to come up with the scores.

“How representative can that one be in a constituency like mine which is made up of two vast districts?” said Wajir North MP Ibrahim Abdi Saney, who scored 43.5 per cent.

A furious Saney said if the poll was about performance then the boreholes he has sunk, schools he has helped build and even roads he has recarpeted and help put up would have gone a long way in grading him fairly.

Nakuru Town West MP Samuel Arama said a more comprehensive poll could return a completely different verdict from this one.

“We do not know what they were looking for, but what I can say is that if another opinion poll is conducted in future, asking more specific questions, we are likely to end up with a different outlook.

Perception is such a fluid parameter upon which to gauge leaders,” he said.

Emuhaya MP Wilbur Ottichilo emerged the best having scored 79.9 per cent followed by his Sirisia counterpart John Waluke while Embakasi East MP Ogutu Omondi was named the worst performing MP, having scored 41.5 per cent.

Mr Omondi also trashed the study, claiming it was meant to serve political interests.

Releasing the polls on Tuesday, Ms Ambitho said respondents were only asked about their general perceptions, not views on specific issues.

A similar survey on performance of Senators earlier in the week, also drew fire from the legislators, with Wajir Senator Abdirahman Hasan threatening to have the Nation barred from covering Senate proceedings.
