MPs to discuss Prof Kaimenyi censure motion

MPs will determine the fate of Education CS Jacob Kaimenyi, when his impeachment motion over alleged misconduct is taken for debate oon Tuesday.

Prof Kaimenyi is accused of mishandling the procurement of laptops, arrogance and failure to consult stakeholders when making important decisions.

The petition by Matayos MP Geoffrey Odanga calls for the dismissal of the cabinet secretary.

However, Prof Kaimenyi has received support from leaders, especially from the Meru region led by Senate Majority Leader Kithure Kindiki.

Complaints against the CS include allowing schools to run without management boards, discrimination against special needs schools and the delay in disbursement of free primary and subsidised secondary school funds.

“The CS treated the National Assembly Committee on Education with contempt when he failed to honour summons and implement its decisions,” the Matayos MP said.

The Constitution provides for an MP, if supported by at least a quarter or 88 of his colleagues, to propose a motion requiring the President to dismiss a cabinet secretary.
