My bed is not worth Sh1 million, Okoth Obado tells critics

  • Governor calls those spreading the rumour “idle and ill-informed”.

Migori County Governor Okoth Obado has denied buying a bed worth Sh1 million.

He said his critics, who are spreading the rumour, were “idle and ill-informed”.

“I have never bought a bed worth Sh1 million, and the people maligning me will get nowhere with this lie. What is their interest in my bedroom? I thought visitors should only go as far as the living room?” he said amid laughter from mourners.

Mr Obado was speaking on Saturday in Ranen village, Rongo sub-county at the burial of county executive committee member Dr Polycarp Ating’a who had been holding the Environment and Disaster Preparedness docket.

“I will not be distracted by petty propaganda by my opponents who want to undermine my development initiatives in this county. I will continue so they should prepare for a resounding defeat  in the 2017 General Election,” he said.

The governor said Migori was ahead of most counties in terms of development and prudent financial management.

“And I will continue to deliver on my election pledges without fear. I am fully prepared for a contest with my opponents in the next elections but I ask them to address issues instead of manufacturing cheap propaganda,” he said.

Former Rongo MP Ochillo Ayacko also attended the burial. He declared he would be in the Migori gubernatorial race in the next elections.
