Leaders from the Luhya community have told Bungoma Senator Moses Wetang'ula to support Musalia Mudavadi's quest for the presidency.

Members of the Nairobi County Assembly, led by Peter Imwotok (Makongeni), said they will only back Mr Wetang'ula's political interests if he supports the Amani National Congress leader.

In a press conference on Saturday, Mr Imwotok said the senator should respect the decision of the people to rally behind Mr Mudavadi.

Mr Mudavadi was bestowed as the community's leader in December.

"Every community has a kingpin and we cannot have two community spokespersons.

"So Wetang’ula should know that Mr Mudavadi is the only spokesperson we have in western region," he said.

They also upbraided former elders Burudi Nabwera, Peter Ludava and Patrick Wangamati for opposing Mr Mudavadi's coronation.

The leaders added that Mr Mudavadi will champion and make sure the community's interests are protected and satisfied.

They also want Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale, Water Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa and Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka to team up with the new spokesman and stop dividing the people.

"We do not want anyone who will delay our mission to send home the Jubilee government.

"We as the Luhya community have decided to be united this time round and we will not allow anyone within or outside to divide us," Mr Masiga said.
