Officials of the United Democratic Forum (UDF) have officially decamped to the newly formed Amani National Congress (ANC) party, which is allied to politician Musalia Mudavadi.

The defectors were received at the ANC party headquarters on Friday as the former deputy prime minister carried on with his political tour of the United Kingdom, where he has been meeting various political figures and marketing his party.

The ANC party leader has used the talks with his foreign hosts to call for changes to Kenya’s electoral system before the next general election.

Back home, the defection of officials of his former UDF party came a day after ANC was finally issued with a registration certificate by the Registrar of Political Parties on Thursday.

The decision came after the party met the requirements of the Political Parties Act.

The eleven officials, led by former MP Justus Kizito, who was the UDF secretary-general, were received by officials of the of the new party at its headquarters in Lavington, Nairobi.

The ANC was formed following protracted wrangles in the UDF that resulted in a split.
