Governor Nderitu Gachagua is in a “good mental and physical state”, the Nyeri County Assembly was told on Friday.

Senator Mutahi Kagwe said Mr Gachagua, who was flown to the United Kingdom for specialised treatment, “is still executing the duties the deputy governor is not authorised to.

“Functions of the county government are still running smoothly even in the absence of Mr Gachagua,” Mr Kagwe said.

“As many of you are aware, our governor has been abroad for the past few months undergoing specialised treatment. I recently visited him and can report that he is in good mental and physical state.”

Mr Kagwe added: “I bring this House and our friends the comfort and reassurance of his return later this month.”

Mr Kagwe urged the MCAs not to confuse disagreements on policies and ideologies with personal matters such as illnesses.

“We, the Nyeri people, are one people and one extended family. For your prayers and the genuine concern you have expressed, I bring you the governor’s greetings as well and his heartfelt gratitude.”

The senator urged the members to continue praying for the governor’s recovery.

“Those who expressed concern about his absence and its potential impact on the county have valid reasons, but I assure you all will be well,” Mr Kagwe added.
