Machakos Senator Johnstone Muthama has vowed to oppose a planned Bill to pull Kenya out of the International Criminal Court (ICC).

The Cord leader said the decision by Jubilee leaders to withdraw from the Rome Statue was a selfish move meant to protect President Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto.

Speaking in Mbui Nzau, when he was campaigning for Cord’s candidate for Kibwezi West Kalembe Ndile, Mr Muthama said the country was not on trial, and it should not be dragged into the affairs of the two leaders.

“Only two people are facing trial at the ICC. Why should we make a mistake because of them?” Mr Muthama asked.

ATTEND TRIAL

The Senator asked the President and his deputy to attend trial at the ICC like any other offenders who are before the court. The lawmaker said the Judiciary was weak and thus the country should remain in the Rome statue.

Mr Muthama pledged to campaign for all Cord leaders who lost their seats in poll petitions. He told the crowd that Cord will continue to fight for rights of Kenyans in Parliament. “Jubilee have tyranny of numbers while we have tyranny of quality,” Mr Muthama said.
