  • Mr Wa Iria accused Mr Murathe of doubting his credibility, insisting that he did not organise the said meeting.
  • Mr Murathe said the committee would require all politicians including Mr Wa Iria to appear before it.

Murang'a Governor Mwangi Wa Iria and a Jubilee Party official have clashed over claims that the governor hired goons to disrupt a political meeting in Makuyu.

Mr Wa Iria, who was initially listed among those summoned by the party's disciplinary committee, said he had received assurances from Secretary-General Raphael Tuju that he would not face the panel to answer to allegations of causing chaos.

He was speaking Wednesday morning at the party's headquarters in Pangani, Nairobi.

"The answer is a big no. In fact I am seeing that on social media and yesterday the party came out very strongly to clarify that those were rumours," he told reporters when asked on whether he had been summoned to explain his role in the chaos.

That, however, contradicted party Vice Chairman David Murathe's comment to the Nation a while earlier.

NO WITCH-HUNT

Mr Murathe said the committee would require all politicians including Mr Wa Iria to appear before it to explain their role in the disturbances.

“There is nothing like witch-hunt. We have to be a disciplined party," said Mr Murathe.

Mr Wa Iria is specifically accused of sending goons to attack participants in Makuyu where his rival and Kigumo MP Jamleck Kamau was in attendance.

But as he arrived to clear his candidature status at the party headquarters, he accused Mr Murathe of doubting his credibility, insisting that he did not organise the said meeting.

"He has no authority to talk about me. If there is something he has to talk about me, let him tell me in writing and I will deal with it.

"I am a structured person. I believe in systems and processes and not social media, neither do I deal in rumours,” said Mr Wa Iria.
