Nasa, Jubilee throw graft accusations at each other

National Super Alliance presidential flagbearer Raila Odinga on Friday dismissed claims by Jubilee that the opposition is being funded by corrupt individuals.

Mr Odinga instead pointed the finger at the government, accusing it of being tainted by corruption.

He said it is in the public domain that the architects of corruption in Kenya are in Jubilee.

“How can Jubilee accuse us of being sponsored by corrupt individuals when their candidates and leaders are the lords of corruption?” the opposition chief asked at Migori Stadium where he was hosted by Governor Okoth Obado.

“The politics of scapegoats will not help them. I have moved around the country and seen that a majority of Kenyans want change through the Nasa leadership.”

ANTI-GRAFT WAR
Early in the week, Jubilee Party leaders said Nasa is full of corrupt people, adding that the opposition campaigns are being bankrolled by proceeds of corruption.

Mr Odinga promised to sweep away traces of corruption in the public sector if elected president.

He told Kenyans to be wary of false promises from President Kenyatta and his government, calling them hot air meant to dupe voters.

“The Jubilee brigade is crisscrossing the country feeding Kenyans on propaganda instead of providing solutions to their problems.

"Voters are patiently waiting for the remaining 38 days before they show this corrupt regime the door,” he said.

EDUCATION
Mr Odinga said the Nasa government would create industrial parks in every county to spur socio-economic development.

He said Nasa would provide free public primary and secondary education, adding that Jubilee had made education an expensive.

“Nasa will provide uniforms, food, textbooks and teachers’ amenities,” he said.

GOVERNMENT REVENUE
Other Nasa principals Musalia Mudavadi and Moses Wetang’ula said Mr Odinga is best suited to replace President Kenyatta “but only if you all turn out on August 8 to vote”.

“If Mr Odinga does not win, I will know the devil is here,” Mr Mudavadi said.

Mr Wetang’ula said Nasa would increase the percentage of revenue due to communities and counties with mineral deposits.

RIGGING
He accused the government of failing to increase the cash despite “the proposal which I spearheaded in the Senate”.

“Jubilee has always insisted on giving our people a raw deal by granting them a paltry five per cent as opposed to the 20 per cent we proposed.

"Nasa will scale up the percentage to 20 as soon as we assume office,” the Bungoma senator said.

Orange Democratic Movement chairman John Mbadi warned the electoral commission against attempts to rig the polls, saying the voter register had already been found to have serious problems.
