The National Super Alliance brigade will today take its campaigns to the South Rift where it will storm Nakuru town, a perceived Jubilee Party stronghold.
The Nasa luminaries led by flag bearer Raila Odinga are expected this afternoon to hold a rally at the Afraha Stadium in Nakuru town in what is seen as their last raid of the cosmopolitan County.
This is the second time that the opposition Nasa will be holding a major rally in Nakuru since it unveiled its Presidential line-up.
Nasa held its first rally at the historic Afraha stadium immediately after they unveiled their flag bearer Mr Odinga.
SAME VENUE
President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Jubilee Party which was supposed to hold a major rally in the same venue on Saturday postponed its grand rally due to what the County Jubilee Party Secretary Kiplangat Cheruiyot termed as 'unavoidable circumstances’.
President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto will now lead Jubilee Party luminaries in their last ditch effort to woo residents to back their re-election, on Monday, ahead of the August 8 General Election.
Shadrack Koskei, a political analyst, told the Nation that the Sunday rally could have informed the postponement of Jubilee’s weekend rally.
“The rescheduling of the rally might have been prompted by the opposition’s weekend rally. Definitely the two political outfits must strive to outwit each other. Jubilee just wants to use the Monday rally to neutralise Nasa’s,” said Mr Koskei.
HOTBED
The two outfits are scrambling for 949,618 registered voters in the cosmopolitan Nakuru County.
Nakuru, perceived to be a hotbed of the country’s politics, has hosted several historic political meetings.
Afraha stadium is symbolic to the ruling coalition(Jubilee) because it is where President Kenyatta and his Deputy Mr Ruto unveiled their joint Presidential ticket in December 2012 that resulted in their win in the March 2013 polls.
Ironically, the stadium was also a picture of human suffering during the 2007/2008 post-election violence as thousands of victims converged and sought refuge at the venue. END.
