Duale calls out Nasa over link to fake letter on flag-bearer

The Jubilee Party has dismissed claims that it had a hand in the circulation of a fake document on social media indicating that the Opposition had settled on a presidential flag-bearer.

National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale said the claims are far-fetched adding that Jubilee has no interest in whoever becomes the National Supper Alliance presidential candidate.

"We have no time and interest in Nasa. We as Jubilee have a party manifesto and a scorecard to measure our progress and cannot waste time with people who have failed to name a flag-bearer. ODM already knows Raila is their candidate [and] that is why they are dismissing the document," he said.

ODM Executive Director Oduor Ong’wen said that according to the letter it was agreed that Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka should be the candidate.

It states in part: "...it is the decision of the Nasa steering committee that HE Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka be the 2017 Nasa presidential candidate, pending ratification of this decision by the Nasa delegates forum on March 22, 2017."

Nasa is made up of four parties: ODM, which is led by Raila Odinga, Ford Kenya (Moses Wetang’ula), ANC (Musalia Mudavadi) and Wiper.

All the leaders have expressed interest in flying the flag.

Mr Ong’wen said the aim of the document is to throw Nasa off balance. He consequently castigated the ruling party saying the act is uncalled for.

"Dear Jubilee, forgery needs a little intellect. Thanks to their reckless actions, Kenyans can smell Jubilee disinformation and misinformation from a mile away," Mr Ong’wen said.

The document dated February 22, 2017 is purportedly signed by Siaya Senator James Orengo for the "Nasa steering committee", which Mr Ong’wen says does not exist.

He clarified that Mr Orengo is the chairman of the Nasa National Coordinating Committee and not steering committee.
