The National Super Alliance (Nasa) will holds its first rally in Nakuru County tomorrow in what the flag-bearer promised will be a game changer.

The rally will be the first to be held by the Opposition in the Rift Valley region after Mr Raila Odinga, also the ODM leader, was picked as the torch-bearer last month.

"Nasa takes the Sunday rally to be a major event and a game changer in the elections scheduled for August," he said in a post on his official Facebook page on Friday.

The four other principals whose parties form the coalition (Kalonzo Musyoka, Wiper; Musalia Mudavadi, ANC; Moses Wetang'ula, Ford-Kenya and Isaac Ruto, Chama Cha Mashinani) are expected at Afraha Stadium for the event.

Mr Odinga said the occasion will shape the political direction ahead of the August 8 elections.

"The Afraha rally will herald a wind of change that will shape the race all the way to August….The rally will herald a loss of grip on the Rift Valley by Jubilee and dispel the illusion and notion created so far that Rift Valley is impenetrably Jubilee," he wrote.

Sources within the alliance said the principals intend to send a strong message of unity and speak against tribalism in the cosmopolitan county.

They will also be appealing for political tolerance in a region that is a Jubilee stronghold.

NAKURU GOVERNORSHIP

They will also use the occasion to officially introduce and endorse the Nasa gubernatorial flag-bearer for the county, Dr Peter Koros of CCM, who will face Mr Lee Kinyanjui of Jubilee Party and three other hopefuls.

They are Mr John Mututho, Senator James Mungai and Nominated Senator Paul Njoroge. Mututho and Mungai will contest as independent candidates.

Also expected at the rally is former Subukia MP Koigi wa Wamwere, who is eyeing the Senate seat.

He ditched Jubilee and joined Nasa after County Assembly Speaker Susan Kihika won the Jubilee ticket by a landslide.

Mr Odinga told everyone to attend regardless of their political affiliation.
