  • The new IEBC chief takes over at a time the courts have reinstated former deputy CEO Wilson Shollei, who had been suspended together with Mr Oswago last year.

Newly appointed electoral commission chief executive Ezra Chiloba is set to be sworn in today before he officially takes over office.

Mr Chiloba, who is the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission’s second CEO, was appointed last month to replace Mr James Oswago who was suspended after being charged by anti-corruption commission over election equipment procurement scandal.

Office of the Chief Justice Monday confirmed that Mr Chiloba would be sworn at the Supreme Court at 10am today.

DEPUTY REINSTATED

The new IEBC chief takes over at a time the courts have reinstated former deputy CEO Wilson Shollei, who had been suspended together with Mr Oswago last year.

Mr Shollei’s return could also upset the organisational order within the electoral commission, with Ms Betty Nyabuto having assumed the deputy position after having failed to take over as CEO.

Contacted Monday, IEBC chairman Issack Hassan said: “Ezra (the new CEO) will deal with that.”

Mr Chiloba is expected to preside over Homa Bay and Kajiado Central by-elections.
