ODM has denied claims that its top officials swindled it of Sh1.5 billion set aside to finance the presidential run-off.

No run-off took place after President Kenyatta won the March 4, 2013 election.

And the party’s executive director, Mr Magerer Langat dismissed allegations by one of the party’s former National Elections Board members, Mr Aggrey Azelwa, who has challenged the party leadership to account for the cash.

Mr Azelwa is also demanding that the party’s national elections scheduled for February 28 be postponed until officials explain how the money was spent.

“The amount in question was approved by the party and set aside for the party’s presidential re-run campaigns,” Mr Azelwa claimed in a statement sent to newsrooms.

The storm over the lost cash came even as preparation for the party’s National Delegates Convention (NDC) continued.

“We do not have such kind of money. Furthermore Mr Azelwa was fired from the NEB and he knows the reasons that led to the decision to sack him,”Mr Magerer said.

This Thursday, ODM has called for a fundraiser to raise part of the Sh30 million budget to finance the NDC.

And Tuesday party leader Raila Odinga dismissed rumours that the delegates meeting had been postponed.

He also allayed fears that the elections would be unfair.
