The Orange Democratic Movement has named nine members to its national election board to oversee its elections later this month.

The board to be chaired by East African Legislative Assembly MP Judy Pareno will be responsible for the poll that has already caused fireworks in the party.

Prof Chacha Nyaigoti is the Secretary. Other members are EALA MP Nancy Abisai, former assistant minister Dr Joseph Misoi, former Nyakach MP Peter Odoyo, Mwajirani Amana, Peter Mutulu, Hellen Katangi and Rashid Ibrahim.

The setting up of the board came amid questions on whether the party was serious on conducting a credible election.

QUIT THE RACE

Six leaders from Nyanza quit the race last week after being prevailed upon by party leader Raila Odinga.

Budalangi MP Ababu Namwamba launched his campaigns in Machakos where he met hundreds of party delegates.

Mr Namwamba said he would not succumb to pressure to withdraw from the race. He maintained that it was the responsibility of the delegates to pick party officials.

The MP blamed a “weak” secretariat for the party’s misfortunes in 2007 and 2013 contested general elections.

“I want the Secretary-General’s seat to provide missing answer to ODM party members growing dissatisfaction with the party operations,” he said.

Kajiado Central MP Joseph Nkaissery yesterday declared support for Mr Namwamba, saying he was a strong personality and die-hard party enthusiast.

Another candidate is Dr Agnes Zani, said to enjoy Mr Odinga’s support.

Delegates from Nakuru and Baringo said the party needed officials from across the country.
