ODM legislators say Uhuru’s tour of Kisumu, Vihiga ill timed

Six opposition leaders have termed the planned visit by President Uhuru Kenyatta to Kisumu and Vihiga counties on Tuesday ill-timed.
The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) politicians said the visit was “too little too late” for a region he had marginalised with regard to development.
President Kenyatta will tour Kisumu, a stronghold of Nasa leader Raila Odinga, State House spokesperson Manoah Esipisu confirmed.
He is expected to have dinner with local leaders, officially close the drama festivals that has been ongoing for two weeks and address the public.
He will then visit Vihiga, Nasa co-principal Mr Musalia Mudavadi’s backyard.
ABANDONED REGION
A month ago, top government officials sent by the President to Nyanza reassured residents that Jubilee had not abandoned the region.
They said the government was putting in place mechanisms to address the region’s challenges in water hyacinth, fishing, ICT and the arts.
The high-powered delegation was led by then-newly appointed Jubilee Party Secretary-General Raphael Tuju, a pointman of the political outfit in Nyanza region.
Local politicians have often accused the Jubilee government of abandoning the region because of their political affiliation.
Mr Esipisu will today give the media today details of the Head of State’s visit.
