ODM unveils new officials at the grassroots

ODM party on Wednesday announced  winners of the recently held party elections in Nyanza to avert a falling out.

The party’s elections board was under pressure from contestants to declare the winners of the hotly-contested polls held in October. Several candidates had claimed victory.

The polls’ coordinator for Nyanza, Mr Peter Odoyo, announced the winners at Orange House in Nairobi.

BITTER CONTEST

Homa Bay Woman Representative Gladys Wanga is the county’s chairperson. She beat Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma, who had earlier declared himself the winner. Mr Odoyo said Mr Kaluma will be the party’s organising secretary in the region.

In Kisumu, former Muhoroni MP Ayiecho Olweny was declared the party’s chairman while Senator Anyang’ Nyong’o joins the county executive committee.

Mr Dave Okwach had earlier been announced the winner, leading to protests from Prof Olweny.

Senator Chris Obure was announced the winner in Kisii while Mr Philip Makabong’o won in Migori. In Siaya, Mr William Ohonde was elected the chairman.

The announcement puts to rest the recent bitter exchanges between Ms Wanga and Mr Kaluma, who had both declared themselves winners in Homa Bay.
