Only super alliance can save Kenya from runaway graft: Mudavadi

Amani National Congress party leader Musalia Mudavadi has revealed that talks to form a National Super Alliance (NASA) are at an advanced stage.

Mr Mudavadi said that Nasa is the only outfit that will save the country from runaway corruption perpetrated by top officials in the Jubilee Government.

“Nasa is brewing and this time round things must change. We want to ensure we dislodge Jubilee from power in the next election,” he said.

Speaking at the burial of Malcolm Otuoma, the son of Funyula MP Paul Otuoma, Mr Mudavadi called on all like minded people, including religious leaders, to join the alliance.

His sentiments were shared by Siaya Senator James Orengo who said they have decided to join forces with other democratic minded people to ensure they send the Jubilee Government home.

Mr Orengo asked churches not to accept contributions from politicians suspected to be engaging in corruption.

“We should not accept dirty money in our churches,” he said.

He said the kind of corruption that led to the “Chickengate” scandal was being witnessed, alluding to the award of a Sh2.5 billion tender to a Dubai printer to print ballot papers for the next General Election.

AWARDED TENDER

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) secretly awarded the tender to the firm last month.

Mr Orengo assured Cord supporters that this time round, they were headed for victory.

However, he warned that Cord will only accept results if the election is conducted in a free and fair manner.

“We either have proper elections or no elections. We want free and fair elections,” he said.

The funeral brought together leaders from different political affiliations.

President Kenyatta and Cord leader Raila Odinga, who had been expected at the function, did not show up.

Mourners braved a heavy downpour throughout the service as they waited for the Head of State and the Opposition leader to show up.

Among leaders present were Governors Wycliffe Oparanya and Sospeter Ojaamong, (Busia) and local senator Amos Wako.
MPs Mary Emase (Teso South), Andrew Toboso (Butere), Alfred Agoi (Sabatia), Godfrey Odanga (Matayos), Fred Outa (Nyando) and Patrick Makau (Mavoko) were also present.
