Othaya by-election officially announced

  • Mr Peter Gichuki King’ara of the Democratic Party, Mr Joshua Mwangi Mugo (Safina), Mr Emilio Kibui Mwangi (Farmers Party) are the other candidates who have been cleared in the Othaya parliamentary contest.

The electoral commission has officially issued a notice of the Othaya parliamentary by-election scheduled for April 29.

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission, in a Kenya Gazette notice, Friday released four names of candidates who will be contesting in the by-election, among them former MP Mary Wambui (TNA).

The commission also gazetted polling stations and tallying centres for the Othaya constituencies and Kilifi County’s Shella ward by-elections.

Mr Peter Gichuki King’ara of the Democratic Party, Mr Joshua Mwangi Mugo (Safina), Mr Emilio Kibui Mwangi (Farmers Party) are the other candidates who have been cleared in the Othaya parliamentary contest.

Othaya Boys High School will be the tallying centre for the parliamentary by-election while Malindi High School in Kilifi will be the centre for the ward election.

The Othaya seat was declared vacant after the Court of Appeal nullified the election of Ms Wambui. For Shella ward, nine candidates from the ODM, MDP, Kadu-Asili, Wiper, Ford-Kenya, Republican Congress Party, Federal Party, CCU and Shirikisho have been cleared.
