The Party of National Unity has suspended its activities in Meru on Saturday due to President Uhuru Kenyatta’s planned tour.

While welcoming the Head of State to the county, PNU leader Peter Munya asked Meru residents to turn up in large numbers to welcome President Kenyatta at the Kaaga Primary School grounds.

The Meru governor spoke Thursday at Thiiri Centre, where he met PNU aspirants.

He urged the President to honour pledges he made to the region during the last general elections.

“We have no presidential candidate as a party. We support President Kenyatta for a second term and we welcome him to Meru even on other days to discuss development issues. The President has a right to market his party in Meru,” Mr Munya said.

President Kenyatta is expected to visit Meru on Saturday.

At the same time, Mr Munya announced that his party has reduced by Sh5,000 the registration fees for special groups.

“We want to build a party that will last for generations. We don’t want to create new parties every election year,” he said.

He urged aspirants to mobilise their supporters to register as voters.
